New Smartpen Application – Wikipedia

Last month we saw the continuation of the applications available through the Livescribe app store with the release of – Wikipedia Abstracts.

wikipedia app for livescribe smartpensOne of the world’s most popular information sources – Wikipedia is now available to Livescribe Smartpen users as an application. Find a word you don’t understand, or looking for some additional information on the subject you’re writing about? All you have to do is write the word and tap it with the pen, (here’s a tip – the word you’ve written needs to be one of the 100,000 most visited Wikipedia entries). If the search term is the database you can then read up more about it on the pen itself.

Whilst we’re not stocking this app here in Australia, you can purchase via the Livescribe store for USD 1.99.

This new app and the previously launched Paper Tablet App are clear examples of how Livescribe is enhancing it’s mobile computing platform.

“Livescribe has always strived to enhance communication and the way information is managed and accessed”, comments Anne Marie Bourcier, EMEA Marketing Director, Livescribe. “The new Wikipedia applications further enhance the existing set of features of the Livescribe smartpens and easily leverage the power of Wikipedia on pen and paper.”

As we talk to more and more developers here in Australia, I can see apps like this evolving to handle specific data or content sets.

For example, could we develop an application that allows a university to load specific course content into an app so that a student can write specific words and access definitions, content etc in real time?

It will be interesting to see how this evolves in the coming months
